What is Poke?
Poke (pronounced po-KAY) has roots in Hawaii when decades ago Japanese immigrants created this recipe of raw cubed fish and vegetables tossed in a soy sauce dressing, served over rice. The name Poke means “to cut crosswise into pieces”, referring to the preparation of the fish. Now appetite for the dish has gone full circle as these days people back in Japan are enjoying it, and popularity has quickly spread here.
Kikkoman’s brand new Poke Sauce is an authentic combination of its famed naturally brewed soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, lemon juice and a little chilli. It’s a palate-pleasing blend of spicy, savoury and sweet and as well as being perfect for Poke Bowl recipes, it can be used as a table sauce, dip and dressing for salads and noodles. Try it with rich, creamy avocado for a real affinity of flavours.
