Dean Edwards


Dean Edwards was born and bred in Bristol. His love of food was inspired by his father, who cooked beautifully but was a tradesman by profession.


Although he became a digger driver himself, Dean always cooked for the love of it and in 2005 was persuaded by his friends and family to enter MasterChef. He went all the way to the final but was pipped at the post – prompting thousands of viewers to flood the BBC's switchboard with complaints that he should have won.

Following a stint at the Michelin-starred Midsummer House in Cambridge, Dean worked on various television programmes, including Take on the Takeaway and This Morning. He is currently the resident chef on ITV's Lorraine and makes regular appearances on Saturday Cookbook.

Dean's Top Tips

You can use Kikkoman in your favourite meals, not only stir fries. One of my favourite meals to cook is my grandmother’ s recipe for lamb and tomato bredie, a spicy South African stew. Over the years I have made this recipe my own and adding a dash of Kikkoman really brings out and intensifies the flavour of the tomatoes.

Kikkoman Soy Sauce is so versatile. In summer, for me a BBQ is all about the rack of ribs, cooked very gently in a low oven until nearly falling off the bone then glazed with a kickin’ BBQ sauce made with Kikkoman Teriyaki Marinade and caramelized over the scorching hot coals.

If you are not very confident in the kitchen remember that cooking is all about having fun and trying things out, even the best chefs make mistakes! It's about having the confidence to cook the things you like to eat. The most important tip is to not be afraid to season your food but remember you can always add more, you can't take it away.
